چکیده

Clustering is one of the most important data mining techniques that partitions data according to some similarity criterion. The problems of clustering categorical data have attracted much attention from the data mining research community recently. As the extension of the k-Means algorithm, the k-Modes algorithm has been widely applied to categorical data clustering by replacing means with modes. In this paper, the limitations of the simple matching dissimilarity measure and Ng’s dissimilarity measure are analyzed using some illustrative examples. Based on the idea of biological and genetic taxonomy and rough membership function, a new dissimilarity measure for the k-Modes algorithm is defined. A distinct characteristic of the new dissimilarity measure is to take account of the distribution of attribute values on the whole universe. A convergence study and time complexity of the k-Modes algorithm based on new dissimilarity measure indicates that it can be effectively used for large data sets. The results of comparative experiments on synthetic data sets and five real data sets from UCI show the effectiveness of the new dissimilarity measure, especially on data sets with biological and genetic taxonomy information. 2011 Elsevier B.V. Clustering with Intelligent Linexk-Means

The intelligent LINEX k-means clustering is a generalization of the k-means clustering so that the number of clusters and their related centroid can be determined while the LINEX loss function is considered as the dissimilarity measure. Therefore, the selection of the centers in each cluster is not randomly. Choosing the LINEX dissimilarity measure helps the researcher to overestimate or undere...

Improved K-Modes for Categorical Clustering Using Weighted Dissimilarity Measure

K-Modes is an extension of K-Means clustering algorithm, developed to cluster the categorical data, where the mean is replaced by the mode. The similarity measure proposed by Huang is the simple matching or mismatching measure. Weight of attribute values contribute much in clustering; thus in this paper we propose a new weighted dissimilarity measure for K-Modes, based on the ratio of frequency...

An Optimization K-Modes Clustering Algorithm with Elephant Herding Optimization Algorithm for Crime Clustering

The detection and prevention of crime, in the past few decades, required several years of research and analysis. However, today, thanks to smart systems based on data mining techniques, it is possible to detect and prevent crime in a considerably less time. Classification and clustering-based smart techniques can classify and cluster the crime-related samples. The most important factor in the c...

A Global-Relationship Dissimilarity Measure for the k-Modes Clustering Algorithm

The k-modes clustering algorithm has been widely used to cluster categorical data. In this paper, we firstly analyzed the k-modes algorithm and its dissimilarity measure. Based on this, we then proposed a novel dissimilarity measure, which is named as GRD. GRD considers not only the relationships between the object and all cluster modes but also the differences of different attributes. Finally ...

Improving K-Modes Algorithm Considering Frequencies of Attribute Values in Mode

The original k-means algorithm is designed to work primarily on numeric data sets. This prohibits the algorithm from being applied to categorical data clustering, which is an integral part of data mining and has attracted much attention recently. The k-modes algorithm extended the k-means paradigm to cluster categorical data by using a frequency-based method to update the cluster modes versus t...
